in situ, in seta - Escale à Sète at the Crac Occitanie
Exhibition
From 26 March to 1 April
The Crac, along with the Occitanie region’s Directorate for Marine Affairs, and its Maritime Parliament, is offering an artistic programme in conjunction with Escale à Sète (Port of Call: Sète), a major celebration of Mediterranean maritime traditions.
in situ, in seta by Joan-Carles Codèrc at the Crac and on Ifremer’s container ship.
Joan-Carles Codèrc’s artistic approach is rooted in Occitan culture and geography. The area’s cultural heritage having long been silenced, he endeavours to rediscover a forgotten Occitan speech, giving it a plastic space for expression. On walls or on paper, on wastelands or in the middle of nature, Joan-Carles Codèrc posits writing as a graphic act, an act that reappropriates a lost speech.
Through these different approaches, Joan-Carles Codèrc establishes a dialogue with Sète and the Mediterranean. Out of his encounters with Sète’s maritime, pictorial, popular and scientific world arise images, forms and words that can aptly participate in the “Escale à Sète” festival, from the IFREMER container ship to the walls of the Crac.
In partnership with Escale à Sète, the CIRDÒC, the Ifremer and the City of Sète.
