Tours offered from nursery school to university
Fun tours for nursery school students
During their visit, every class is divided into two groups, each accompanied by a mediator. Activities are offered in front of the works.
Fun tour duration: 60 minutes
Fun tools to support visits by nursery school students:
• Materials library: sensory exploration of the materials used by the artist(s)
• Puzzles based on a selection of exhibited works
• Spot-the-difference games: observation games to find differences between the original exhibited work and its reproduction.
• Detail cards: visual recognition game with cards presenting fragments of works in the exhibition
Workshop-tours for primary school students
During their visit, every class is divided into two groups, each accompanied by a mediator.
The workshops take place at the end of the tour, in the Crac’s workshop space.
The programme of workshops is designed to be appropriate for the students’ grade, and is implemented in consultation with the teacher.
Duration of the workshop-tour: 90 minutes
For all exhibitions, here are some broad topics that can be covered with primary students at the Crac, in connection with their core learning:
• Architecture, through the Crac’s large dimensions, its history, its past function as a refrigerated warehouse and its current function as an art centre
• In situ works (works created by an artist for a specific site, in interaction with its architecture and its environment)
• The creation process (identifying materials and techniques)
• The broad categories of artistic creation
• Humanist culture
• How the works relate to the students’ everyday lives
Interactive tours for middle school, secondary, and university students
The Crac offers interactive tours with mediators for middle school, secondary and post-secondary students.
Duration of the interactive tour: 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the grade.
In order to be able to adapt to specific requirements as well as possible, the Visitor Services team is available to teachers wishing to prepare their visit in advance.
As part of the regional artistic education programme, the Crac can pay for the transportation of Secondary School students in the region coming to visit the Crac.
For teachers
“Teachers” tours: while each exhibition is open, the educational service invites teachers to come and explore the exhibition in its company, and prepare their field trip to the Crac with their students.
Training for teachers: Every year, the Crac organises training days for teachers, particularly in the context of the PAF (Plan Académique de Formation) and in partnership with DAFPEN (Délégation académique à la formation des personnels de l’éducation nationale). It also hosts courses by the Cercle d’étude en histoire des arts, and area meetings of visual arts teachers.
Recent training action: “The place of popular culture in contemporary art”.
Bespoke projects for EAC and higher education
EAC / Arts and Cultural Education
The Crac Occitanie is a resource site for teachers who wish to develop EAC projects in the context of the programs set up by the Ministry of Education (AET, artist residencies, art workshops, cultural classes, PAC classes etc.) in partnership with the Académie de Montpellier, the DRAC Occitanie and regional authorities. The projects are developed by Visitor Services in consultation with teachers.
The Crac has signed twinning agreements with the Lycées Joliot Curie in Sète (general, technological and professional), the Cité Scolaire Paul Valéry in Sète, and the Lycée Jules Fil in Carcassonne.
Some examples of experiments carried out:
For primary school students
The 2021-2022 EAC project on the body with École maternelle Condorcet in Sète.
The exhibition Le grand bestiaire des petites bêtes, presentation of the Arboébio EAC art and sciences project.
The 2022-2023 EAC project “How does it work? Creation itineraries” with Lakanal elementary school in Sète.
For middle school students
Les Territoires de l’art contemporain (Territories of Contemporary Art)
The Crac is a partner of the AET (Territorial Educational action) project entitled Territories of Contemporary Art, set up by the Hérault departmental council. This AET includes a tour of the exhibitions and a meeting with an artist at the Crac. It is held following a preliminary meeting between the teacher who is leading the project and the Crac’s Visitor Services team.
For high school students
Bianca Bondi’s residency at Cité scolaire Paul Valéry and the end-of-residency exhibition at the Crac.
Culture Pass for middle school and high school students
The Crac offers group discounts for its exhibitions, providing not only tours, but also meetings with artists, the Crac team, and others.
Higher education
To meet specific requirements, the Crac can develop bespoke projects in consultation with the group contact: meetings with members of the Crac team about art centre professions, as well as with artists, curators, and others.
Throughout the year, the Crac welcomes students studying production, communication, mediation, and other subjects, as part of their studies.
