Les Automn’Halles with Philippe Bordas

Rencontre

As part of Automn’Halles - Festival du livre de Sète, the book festival in Sète, the Crac will host a live interview with writer Philippe Bordas. His most recent book Le Célibataire absolu, published by Gallimard in September 2022, is a tribute to the little-known Italian writer Carlo Emilio Gadda (1893-1973), whose novel The Experience of Pain (Pengin, 2017 [1969]) Philippe Bordas discovered in the early 1980s. It turned him into a kind of fervent and inspired disciple of Gadda.

Now in its fourteenth year, the festival is holding events from 27 September to 1 October 2023 throughout Sète: live interviews, gatherings at the media library and in bookshops with guest authors and publishers from Sète and the region.

This year, Les Automn’Halles is celebrating 350 years of the City of Sète, and is taking part in the programme of events marking this anniversary.

Philippe Bordas, born in 1961 in Sarcelles, is a photographer and writer.
A former cycling columnist for the sports daily L’Équipe (1984-1989), he has paid lively tributes to the great racers of the 20th century, not without taking a passing swipe at contemporary cycling in his book Forcenés (2008). A photographer since 1990, he travelled around Africa for fifteen years. He won the 2004 Prix Nadar for his photo book L’Afrique à poings nus, published by Éditions du Seuil. He presented an exhibition entitled Les Chasseurs du Mali first at the Bamako Encounters photography biennale in 2011, then at the Institut français du Gabon in February 2012. In August 2014, Gallimard published his first novel, Chant furieux.
